Basic information - overview

ITYOP̣IS – Northeast African Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (NEAJ) appears annually. In addition, special issues are published on an irregular basis. Subscription orders shall be submitted to the editorial office. Manuscripts of scholarly articles, including miscellaneous articles, book reviews, conference reports and research abstracts, are welcome and shall be submitted in electronic form (Word and pdf). They have to be based on original research. After screening, articles are submitted to external reviewers for peer review. ITYOP̣IS reserves the right to make necessary language changes, or request the author to do so, or reject the article submitted. By their submission authors agree that their article will be published also in the e-version of ITYOP̣IS. Manuscripts will not be returned.

Thematic focus of the Journal

The Journal publishes articles based on research in social sciences and humanities, with focus on research on Northeastern African topics (countries: Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Somaliland, Southern Sudan, Sudan). The disciplines covered by this Journal are especially social and cultural anthropology, history (including ethnohistory), cultural studies, heritage studies, archaeology, philology, linguistics, epigraphy, literature (including oral literature), political science and human geography. This can include papers discussing already known scholarly topics if they offer important new insights or contribute to an improvement of methodology. Also miscellaneous articles focusing on smaller observations of cultural phenomena or other data, which deserve to be known without needing a full article, are welcome, as book reviews and conference reports. The Journal publishes abstracts of ongoing research projects and welcomes anyone who wishes to make his/her research known using this forum.
